UEFA, UC3 and Relevent shake up Europe’s TV rights market as Paramount enters as major player

November 21 – Claiming ‘unprecedented interest’, UEFA’s joint venture commercial arm UC3 has unveiled a raft of new deals and broadcasters (preferred bidders) for its club competitions in Europe’s top five markets of UK, Germany, Spain, Italy and France.

TNT Sports turns on the cameras for $5m W7F sevens spectacular

November 19 – TNT Sports, which a few years ago walked away from the US broadcast rights to the UEFA Champions League in the US, is returning to the game with a new platform in the form of the World Sevens Football Tournament, a three-day 7v7 women’s only showcase that runs December 5-7 on TNT, truTV, and HBO Max.

Paramount cull sparks fears for CBS football coverage

October 21 – Paramount’s new CEO, David Ellison, has entered the corporation with a sharpened scalpel, and is preparing to axe between 2,000 and 3,000 employees in the United States as part of a sweeping $2 billion cost-cutting plan. Hollywood Bible Variety described the move as “a broad across-the-board culling,” leading many to fear for the future of football on the CBS Sports platform.
