Romanian FA meets with British ambassador to discuss closer football ties

January 16 -The British Ambassador to Romania, Giles Portman (pictured left), conducted an official working visit to the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) headquarters at Casa Fotbalului, meeting with FRF President Razvan Burleanu (right) to discuss strengthening ties through sport.

The meeting focused on several key pillars of cooperation.

Both parties explored facilitating programmes where British football experts would share their technical and administrative expertise with Romanian club representatives through dedicated FRF projects.

The British Embassy expressed enthusiastic support for amateur and grassroots football. This is a significant sector in Romania; currently, more than 362,000 students (approximately 12% of the country’s total student population) participate in grassroots competitions organised by the FRF and the Ministry of Education.

Discussions also covered potential joint ventures in social responsibility projects, leveraging the popularity of football to drive positive community impact.

This visit underscores the commitment of both the UK and the FRF to fostering athletic excellence and social development through international partnership, said a Romanian press statement.
