A giant amongst Mexico’s giant clubs, Club América, the club has won a record 16 league titles, a record six Copa Mexico titles, and a joint-record seven Campeon de Campeones played between the champions of the Liga MX Apertura and Clausura tournaments.
They play at the iconic Azteca Stadium.
América have won a joint-record (shared with Cruz Azul) seven CONCACAF Champions Cup/Champions League titles.
The club has also won one Campeones Cup, played between the winners of Liga MX and the MLS.
América’s Champions Cup wins include back-to-back titles in 2014-15 and 2015-16, the last club to do so. But they have not won the title since. This will be their 15th Champions Cup appearance, with their debut coming in 1977 and their last participation in 2021 when they lost to Monterrey in the final, 1-0.
Overall, they have a Champions Cup record of 50W-20D-17L, with 176 goals scored and just 79 conceded.
Brazilian André Jardine was appointed manager in June 2023 and won three consectuve national titles with the club.
His playing style is a possession-based, high-intensity, but he is not afraid to adapt his tactics adaptable style. Preferring a 4-2-3-1 formation, he expects his full-backs to be able to take central midfield positions and will use quick, direct through-balls to break down opponents.
Key players often include star goalkeeper Luis Malagón, versatile midfielder Álvaro Fidalgo who dictates the team’s player, and record goal Henry MartínWinger Alejandro Zendejas on his day provides the club’s X factor.
At the back Sebastián Cáceres and Israel Reyes are crucial to perhaps LigaMX’s strongest defensive set up. If Martin hits his stride upfront, fed more often than not by Zendejas, America are hard to beat.
